- Discuss current Parish property insurance coverage in relation to the current hurricane season.

There were present : Joseph “Joe” Bishop, President, Sean McGlothlin, Vice - President, Craig Smith, Ernest Nelson, Danny Bordelon, Oliver “Ollie” Overton, Jr and Parrish Giles.
Absent were Police Jurors: Davron “Bubba” Moreau and Jay Scott.
Also present were : M s. Theresa Pacholik , Secretary/Treasurer; Mr. Gregory L. Jones, Legal Counsel; Ms. Devon Davis, Ms. Kerry Vogel, Ms. Julie Beene-Police, Ms. Lisa Walker, Mr. Greg McQueen, Ms. Gina Lachney and Mr. Jim Planchard.
The invocation was given by Mr. Ollie Overton.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Ernest Nelson.
The Police Jury of the Parish of Rapides, State of Louisiana, was duly convened as the governing authority of said Parish by Hon. Joe Bishop, President, who welcomed all present and then stated that the Police Jury was ready for the transaction of business.
The President asked if there was any public comment on any agenda item, to which there was no response.
On motion by Mr. Craig Smith, seconded by Mr. Ollie Overton to d iscuss current Parish property insurance coverage in relation to the current hurricane season. On vote the motion carried. Discussion ensued.
Mr. Jones stated when the Jury renewed the property insurance in October 2023, the policy held a limited value versus the actual cash value. Due to time constraints of the renewal date, the Jury approved the policy and started looking into other options to make sure the property was insured for the actual cash value. received from Brown & Brown with a proposed effective date of July 1, 2024. He stated a memo was passed out to the Jurors at today’s meeting from Ms. Theresa Pacholik with a comparison of the current policy vs the proposed policy. Ms. Pacholik briefly went over the contents of the memo and asked for any questions, to which there were none. Mr. Jim Planchard, representative from Brown and Brown, spoke briefly on the contents of the policy through carrier Affiliated FM Insurance Company and thanked the Jury for an opportunity to provide a quote.
On motion by Mr. Parrish Giles, seconded by Mr. Ollie Overton to terminate the current Parish property insurance with Risk Services of Louisiana, said termination effective July 1, 2024 at 12:00 am, and accept, approve and authorize the propert y insurance coverage proposal received from Affiliated FM Insurance Company, f or Parish properties with an effective date of July 1, 2024 and authorize the President to sign all necessary document for said new policy. On vote the motion carried.
On motion by Mr. Craig Smith, seconded by Mr. Joe Bishop there being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:19 p.m.
