NOTICE OF SPECIAL POLICE JURY MEETING
- Public Hearing for R apides Parish Police Jury, sitting as the Board of Review, to receive any protests under a Request for Review of property tax assessments timely filed.
- Any other business that may properly come before the Police Jury.
BY ORDER OF THE PRESIDENT

There were present: Honorable, Craig Smith, President; Oliver Overton, Vice President; and Police Jurors Joe Bishop; Theodore Fountaine, Jr., Rusty Wilder and David Johnson
Absent: Davron “Bubba” Moreau, Sean McGlothlin and Scott Perry, Jr.
Also present: Mr. Cory Ashmore, Public Works Director; Mr. Greg Jones, Legal Counsel; and Ms. Laurel Smith, Parish Secretary.
The invocation was given by Mr. Ollie Overton, Jr.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. David Johnson.
The Police Jury of the Parish of Rapides, State of Louisiana, was duly convened as the governing authority of said Parish by Hon. Oliver Overton, President, who welcomed all present and then stated that the Police Jury was ready for the transaction of business.
The President asked if there was any public comment on any agenda item, to which there was none. SPECIAL SESSION OCTOBER 26, 2020
On motion by Mr. Ollie Overton, seconded by Mr. Joe Bishop, to sit as a Board of Review for hearing complaints on property assessment, as advertised. On vote the motion carried.
The President recognized Mr. Rick Ducote, Rapides Parish Tax Assessor.
Mr. Rick Ducote stated all of the protests except for one have withdrawn. The only one left is for Peridido Energy. This has an ongoing lawsuit that has been going on for a number years. It is basically a continuation to protect their right to appeal. They will be meeting with the Assessor’s Attorney in Baton Rouge with some of the other Assessor’s involved in the lawsuit. Hopefully there will be a resolution to this.
Mr. Ducote, Tax Assessor, stated his evidence on the protest and asked the Police Jury to uphold the assessments by the Rapides Parish Tax Assessor and let this go to the Tax Commission.
Mr. Ducote thanked the Jury for delaying the Board of Review process due to Hurricane Laura and due to the damage, he changed assessments on about 350 properties.
Mr. Rick Ducote, Rapides Parish Tax Assessor, presented the 2020 Assessments for Rapides Parish as certified to the Police Jury on October 16, 2020.
