Executive & Government Relations Committee Meeting

Minutes: Meeting of Tuesday, February 16, 2021

Present: John Carroll, Chair, Stephen McGee, Vice-Chair

Absent: Candice Cheney, Secretary/Treasure

The monthly meeting of the Greater Alexandria Economic Development Authority’s Executive & Government Relations Committee was called to order by Commissioner Carroll 8:15 a.m. Executive Administrator, Angela Varnado called the roll. A quorum was present.

Legal Counsel reported that Mr. Charles F, Smith was officially sworn in as a GAEDA Commissioner. A discussion was held.

The Executive Director commented that Councilman Porter contacted him regarding a possible candidate for the vacant commissioner’s position. A discussion was held.

There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned at 8:21 a.m.

Minutes: Meeting of Tuesday, February 16, 2021

The monthly meeting of the Greater Alexandria Economic Development Authority’s Administration & Legal Committee was called to order by Commissioner McGee at 8:22 a.m. Executive Administrator, Angela Varnado called the roll. A quorum was present.

It was moved by Commissioner Winstead and seconded by Commissioner McGee to delay the recommendation for approval of the January 2021 Financial Statements until the next regularly schedule meeting. A discussion was held. There being no public comments, motion was delayed by unanimous vote.

It was moved by Commissioner Winstead and seconded by Commissioner McGee to recommend payment of the January 2021 Accounting Bill. There being no public comments, motion passed by unanimous vote.

It was moved by Commissioner Winstead and seconded by Commissioner McGee to recommend payment of the January 2021 Legal Bill. There being no public comments, motion passed by unanimous vote.

There being no further discussion to come before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 a.m.

Economic Development Committee Meeting

Commissioner Winstead commented that the City could possibility come to GAEDA with 2 requests. One, a request would be on the artificial turfs at Johnny Downs Complex and the second request being the possibility of assistance with adjudicated property process on the commercial side. A discussion was held.

There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned at 8:35 a.m.

The Executive Director also strongly recommended that Mr. Spears from the GAEDA Revitalization Corporation (GRC) be invited to discussions regarding the discussions with the City and GAEDA regarding adjudicated property due to Mr. Spears’ extensive knowledge on the topic. A discussion was held.

The Executive Director welcomed Commissioner Smith to the Authority.

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 9:15 a.m.
